Our Aviary:
We believe our aviary provides more protection to our parrots from diseases that could potentially be spread by other birds, animals or humans, as we have a separate area for new coming parrots that we add to our flock from time to time. This separate area is set up with different ventilation and different air supply then our aviary. Any and all birds that we add to our flock go into this area under quarantine for a period of, and not less then, 60 days. Vet(s) and other aviary's do state that 30 days is the standard, but we like to take it further for our flocks safety. We do have health certificates on hand from our avian vet, {Dr. Michelle R. Distelberg, D.V.M @ The Animal Clinic, Inc.- I also use Dr. Scott McDonald when he does the Grand Rapids Bird Clinics} and I keep all files up dated regularly. I also do routine testing for the 3 P's, which is sent to a lab in CA, and results are sent back. I periodically choose 5 birds to have tested by-monthly. Results are kept on file. If any of the birds that are tested are put up for sale, a copy of the testing results, will go with that particular bird(s).
Our aviary offers all of our breeding parrots individual flight cages, with a concrete floor which provides an environment that can be easily sanitized. Our aviary also has proper ventilation, and air purification to better the air they breath. We also have humidity and heat controls in the aviary to help with climate control for happier bird(s).
For our birds protection, we have no traffic coming into the Aviary in order to keep a safer environment. I am the only one allowed in for cleaning, feeding, ect. Though, I do allow anyone to schedule a time to come see a few of our birds outside the aviary.
